Tech Tonic event simplifies social media for WWU

Society’s roles within social media – whether as a tool for marketing yourself and your career path or as a shaper of our online identities – were the two speaker topics at Western’s annual Tech Tonic technology expo on April 10 in the Wilson Library Reading Room.

Assistant Professor of Marketing Mark Staton went over some of the simple steps available to both students and those already in the work force to boost career opportunities through social media, and Assistant Professor of Psychology Adriana Manago discussed how young people can negotiate the landscapes of social media in productive ways to mobilize social resources and nurture a healthy sense of self.

In between the two presentations, Tech Tonic were many quick, 15-minute presentations on software tools and technology. Topics included Evernote, Google Docs, Zotero, digital photography, “Facebook Fails,” Touchcast, Social Media for Businesses, Flickr, ByWord, Crafting a Social Media Strategy, and more.
