Students prepare Sehome Arboretum for special day Saturday, June 5

Western Washington University will host its third annual "It's Your Arboretum Day" from 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday, June 5, at the Outdoor Learning Center, located on the Huntoon Trail in the western part of the Sehome Arboretum adjoining WWU's campus. The event is free and open to the public.

On Wednesday, Western juniors Ian Lucas and John Herbert spent time in the arboretum adding gravel to the south campus arboretum shortcut trail behind Miller Hall Wednesday, June 2. The new trail and wooden stairway were constructed by the Geology 417D spring block instructed by Geology Professor Dave Engebretson.

"'It's Your Arboretum Day' is an opportunity for everyone to enjoy and experience our underused arboretum," said Engebretson. "It also exemplifies the great working relationship we have with the City of Bellingham, which jointly owns the arboretum with WWU."
