Students' large-format film photos of campus on display through Oct. 24

Using Julius Shulman’s photographic documentation of Modernist architecture in California during the mid-19th century as a point of departure, Garth Amundson’s fall 2011 390 Intermediate Photography students have explored space and architecture with a traditional 4x5-inch large-format view camera.

The images are on display in the lobby of the SMATE Building on campus through Oct. 24.

Students broke into groups to create striking images, utilizing light, composition and the movements of the historic view camera. After scouting locations and shooting with digital cameras, they re-shot the images with the analog large-format cameras. After processing the silver-based film negatives, they scanned them to produce elegant 40 x 60 inch prints that document a variety of locations across the WWU campus.

Students involved are Quynh-Van Vu, Rebecca Taylor, Austin Strand, Amanda Reeves, Wendy Witsoe, Danielle Peterson, Michaela Patrick, Joshua McDevitt, Emily Getts, Aly Hodges, Jenessa Sneva, Jamison Takao, Joe Rudko, Erick Rufon, Kai Caemmerer and Stacy Williams.
