Student art hangs in Wilson windows

A handful of Western Washington University students have created an art project in which they place large black-and-white prints in the windows of Wilson Library, visible to passers-by.

The team-thematic project, created in the fall 2015 ART 371 Intermediate Black and White class taught by Garth Amundson, had students learning the fundamentals of an analog 4-inch-by-5-inch view camera while exploring issues of identity and portraiture. After working in the lighting studio and processing their own negatives, they scanned the images and printed them with the Art Department’s 9800 large format printer provided by the Student Technology Fund. The class also had the added benefit of working with Quinton Maldonado, a recent WWU BFA alum and gifted artist.

The exhibit, titled "FAST-FORWARD-REVERSE," is on display Oct. 19 to Nov. 4 in the Wilson Library East windows on floors 3, 4 and 5.
