Secretary of State Sam Reed visits WWU campus on college civics tour

Washington Secretary of State Sam Reed visited the Western Washington University campus this morning to chat with students and WWU President Bruce Shepard. The visit was part of Reed's week-long college civics tour, during which he's visiting 23 schools throughout the state to promote students' participation in government.

"I want students to know their collective voice is powerful and talk about what they stand to gain by participating," Reed said in a press release from his office. "A big part of this tour is getting out and explaining how and why their votes make a difference, and simple ways for them to participate in their government."

During his stop at WWU, Reed presented Shepard with the book "Nancy Evans: First Rate First Lady," part of the Washington State Legacy Project.

After leaving WWU, Reed's plans for Wednesday included visiting the campuses of Whatcom Community College, Edmonds Community College and Grays Harbor Community College.
