Orientation helps students get a jump on school

Transitions, Western Washington University’s advising, registration and orientation program for new transfer and postbaccalaureate students, wrapped up this week, with more than 800 new students and 300 family members visiting campus.

Up next is Summerstart, which is the advising, registration and orientation program for new first-year students, beginning Aug. 4.

Summerstart participants register for one of eight two-day session blocks. More than 2,000 new students and 1,500 family members are registered to attend.

The Summerstart program, which ends Aug. 21, features academic advising and support, class registration, informative workshops and peer-led orientation sessions about Western and campus life. An extensive information fair for students and families to become more familiar with Western’s services and resources will be held in the Viking Union Multipurpose Room.

Check-in for Summerstart will occur in the parking lot adjacent to Higginson Hall (5G) from 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Aug. 4, 6, 8, 11, 13, 15, 18 and 20. Traffic entering those parking areas may be more congested than usual.
