Department of State officials chat with students about careers in the foreign service

Roughly 25 students attended a luncheon seminar in the Wilson Library Reading Room Thursday, May 26, to hear about diplomatic opportunities in the U.S. Foreign Service.

Speaking at the event was U.S. Consul General Phillip Chicola, assisted by vice consul Thomas Duval. The event was sponsored by the Center for Canadian-American Studies, Fairhaven College of Interdisciplinary Studies and the U.S. State Department.

Special guests at the event, all from the Education USA Program, were Liang Xueming, from the U.S. Embassy Beijing; Anara Jamasheva, from Soros Foundation Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan Kristen Cammarata, regional education advising coordinator in the The Middle East and Africa, and Karen Bauer, from U.S. Consulate in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The event was a smashing success. We had about 25 students in attendance, with four special guests from the  and two representatives from the US State Department. Education USA is a program affiliated with the State Department, where education advisors are housed at US Embassies abroad and assist foreign students interested in studying in the United States.

In their presentation, Chicola and Duval offered advice for students interested in pursuing careers in the U.S. Foreign Service during a lively Q&A session. Students stayed to chat and glean more information learn for over two hours.
