John Lawson, Western Washington University's vice provost for Information Technology and chief information officer, is retiring after 10 years at Western.

"Commedia in the Park" is an annual event presented by Western Washington University Theatre students enrolled in the summer course "Advanced Acting Topics," taught by Rich Brown.
The highly physicalized, masked comic performance originates from the Italian Renaissance. The show features well-known stock characters such as the tricky servants, young lovers and foolish old men.
The performances, which occurred in Bellingham's Maritime Heritage Park are over for this summer, but they'll be back in 2017.
Local Americana band Polecat kicked off the Summer Noon Concert Series this past week under the warm June sun.
Polecat has traveled all over Northwest United States, performing more than 550 shows and recording three albums in six years. More on them is available at www.polecatmusic.com.
The series, put on each year by the Associated Students, brings local acts to campus for Wednesday lunchtime concerts throughout summer quarter.
About 2,030 students graduated from Western Washington University in two spring Commencement ceremonies at Bellingham’s Civic Stadium June 11.
About 1,825 undergraduate and 205 master’s students were expected to graduate from Western June 11. Spring Commencement ceremonies were held off campus at Civic while the Carver Academic Building undergoes major renovation.
Associated Students Productions put on its annual Lawnstock music concert this past weekend on the Communications Facility Lawn.
The free concert, on for its fourth year, featured a number of local bands.
Mary Lambert, The Flavr Blue, COSMOS, Snug Harbor and Crooked Neighbours all performed. Food trucks, games and a carnival ride were set up around the area.

Western Washington University President Bruce Shepard and his wife, Cyndie, held an ice-cream social June 1 express their appreciation to faculty and staff.
The event, held in the Viking Union Multipurpose Room, was well attended by faculty and staff hoping to wish the Shepards well in their retirement from Western.

Students enrolled in the Campus Sustainability Planning Studio class at Western Washington University presented their projects Wednesday morning, June 1, in the Viking Union. The students have been working on projects aimed at advance Western's campus in the area of sustainability. Wednesday, they showed their work to stakeholders involved in the process of planning.

For the second year, Associated Students Productions brought a petting zoo to campus to help ease students' stress as the year winds down.

Placed in the Old Main lawn this week were 152 flags in memory of 152 service members from Washington state who lost their lives in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
The flags are an annual tradition from the WWU Veterans Outreach Center.
Memorial Day is Monday, May 30.
Following Back 2 Bellingham, M.E.Ch.A. de WWU--an Ethnic Student Center Club--hosted its 16th annual Ridin' Low in the 3-6-0 lowrider show Sunday. The free event filled Red Square with customized cars, trucks, and bikes, bringing in visitors from all over the western United States and Canada.
According to M.E.Ch.A., the founders of the show "envisioned a community event that celebrated Chicanx culture through music, dance performances, community activism, hop contests, and food."
