Guard Morris Anderson scored 17 of his game-high 24 points in the second half as nationally ranked Western Washington University rallied from an 11-point second-half deficit to defeat Dixie State University, 81-73, in a non-conference men's basketball game Tuesday on Haggen Court at Sam Carver Gymnasium on the WWU Campus.

The Vikings, ranked No.16 in the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches/NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll, improved to 12-1 with their 11th consecutive victory, tying the fourth longest streak in school history.

Tournament MVP Jessica Summers (Sr., Blaine) scored all of her team-high 17 points in the second half, leading Western Washington University to a 66-58 victory over Sonoma State University in final-day women's basketball action Monday at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference/California Collegiate Athletic Association Crossover Classic held on Haggen Court at Sam Carver Gymnasium.

Members of the Western Washington University singing group FM Singers, along with a few other staff members and students, walked through campus on Wednesday, Dec. 16, singing well known Christmas carols, many of them with lyrics modified to fit WWU.

For example, here are the words to "Grey Christmas," written by Environmental Health and Safety's Bruce Boyer:

Just like the ones we always know

When umbrellas glisten, and children listen

Approximately 566 undergraduates and 30 master’s candidates received degrees from Western Washington University in fall quarter 2009. Fall commencement was held Dec. 12 in Sam Carver Gymnasium at WWU.

Jere Hawn, the manager of the Manufacturing and Supply Chain Management program in the Department of Decision Sciences at WWU, was spotted on the "Today Show" this morning holding a Western Washington University sign, shouting, "Go Vikings!" and saying hello to his students and family back home in Bellingham.

Hawn is in Afghanistan with the U.S. Navy.

Dec. 7 to 11 is finals week at Western Washington University. Commencement is slated for 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, in Carver Gymnasium.

Hundreds of new children's and young adult books will be on sale at WWU in the upcoming Children's Literature Book Sale sponsored by the English Department.

The sale takes place from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 3 and from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 4 in Wilson Library Room 171. The room is accessible from High Street.
