Sunday marked the 18th annual Ridin’ Low in the 3-6-0 low-rider show. Gleaming paint, triple-dipped chrome, and custom wire rims were just a few aspects of the show. Eighteen years ago students as part of the Movimiento Estudiantil Chicanx de Aztlan (M.E.Ch.A.) at WWU envisioned a community event that celebrated Chicanx culture through music, dance performances, community activism, hop contests, and food.

Western Washington University's Campus Recreation Department hosted the university’s first-ever wheelchair basketball tournament on Saturday, April 14 at the Wade King Student Recreation Center. The event, called Vikings on Wheels, was open to everyone (people with and without disabilities) and all skill levels. All event proceeds went to Campus Recreation’s efforts to provide additional adaptive sports opportunities at Western.

The 25th Anniversary of the Employee Art Show is now on display in the Western Gallery. 

The show celebrates the artistic talents of faculty, staff and retirees, from photography to woodworking to glass blowing and textile arts and will be on display through Friday, April 6. An opening reception April 2 kicked off the show.

Winter commencement

Physician Frank James, a Western Washington University alumnus, addressed about 575 undergraduate and 45 master’s degree students and their families at the winter commencement ceremony on Saturday, March 24 in Carver Gymnasium. Congratulations graduates, we are proud of you!

Hundreds of students, faculty and staff gathered last night at 6 p.m. in Red Square then started their procession downtown to the Depot Market Square for the 2nd Annual Paint B'ham Blue for WWU celebration. A good time was had by all - welcome back to campus, students!

The annual Student Convocation welcomed new Viks to campus with a round of speakers at the PAC, including President Sabah Randhawa; Vice President for Enrollment and Student Services Melynda Huskey; Physics/Astrononmy faculty member Regina Barber DeGraaff; and AS President Simrun Chhabra, followed by the traditional "tunnel of cheers" as the students made their way to the Old Main lawn for fireworks. Welcome new students, and have a great year!
