Dancer from El Salvador wows the crowd

As the sun dipped behind Lummi Island across Bellingham Bay from Western’s campus, students, faculty and community members from many corners of the world came together to celebrate one another with food, music, dancing and games as Language and Culture Programs (LCP) hosted its fall International Culture Night on Friday, Nov. 1, in the Viking Union MPR.

Each weekday this fall, Office of Communications Visual Journalism interns Joely Johnson and Alix Condit will share their views of the student experience at Western through images that help tell Western's story. Check back often!

Professional Staff Award: Tim McLaughlin and Catherine Shornick

The traditional breakfast in the VU this morning was followed by the presentation of the annual Awards for Excellence and President Randhawa's Opening Convocation remarks.

This year's award winners are:

Western Washington University Distinguished Alumnus Michael Cox, a longtime Environmental Protection Agency official, addressed WWU graduates and their families at the summer commencement ceremony Aug. 24 at 9:45 a.m. in Carver Gymnasium.

About 420 undergraduate and 40 master’s students  graduated from Western summer quarter.

More than 2,000 Western students graduated at the four commencement ceremonies held Friday and Saturday in Carver. Main speakers for the ceremonies were Pictionary creator Rob Angel, documentary filmmaker TJ Martin, former L’Oréal creative director Michael Jorgensen, and Boeing executive Jason Clark. Western also awarded a posthumous honorary degree to former student and Medal of Honor recipient James K. Okubo.

The inaugural E-Higgy Doggy Dash: 5k Fun Run/Walk was held last Sunday, with all participants winding their way through campus to raise funds for the Whatcom Humane Society. Well done, dashers!

About 675 undergraduate and 60 master’s students graduated from Western last Saturday. Supply chain professional Deborah Dull, a Western Washington University alumna, addressed WWU graduates and their families at the ceremony in Carver Gymnasium. See images below.
