Western Washington University officials welcomed a delegation from Chungbuk National University on Monday, Aug. 24. Provost Brent Carbajal met with Chungbuk National University President Yeo-Pyo Yun. Also attending the meetings from WWU were Francisco Rios, dean of Woodring College of Education, and Earl Gibbons, vice provost of Extended Education.
Julie Larson-Green, chief experience officer for Microsoft’s Applications and Services Group, addressed Western Washington University graduates and their families in two summer commencement ceremonies that took place in Western’s Performing Arts Center Mainstage Aug. 22.
Approximately 360 undergraduates and about 45 master’s candidates received degrees this quarter.

Gallowglass, a traditional Irish folk music band from Bellingham, closed out the Summer noon concert series for the year on Wednesday, July 29.
The Marrowstone Music Festival, a 2-week orchestra training program, is underway through August 9. Throughout the festival, musicians can be seen and heart practicing and performing all around Western Washington University's campus.
Western has been playing host for much of July to a group of 20 11-year-old South Korean students who are a part of a sister city youth program between Bellingham and Cheongju, Korea.
During this camp, which began July 12 and continues to Aug. 1, students participate in hands-on classroom learning and outdoor activities while practicing their English speaking skills.
Western Kids Camp is offered at Western Washington University's Bellingham and Poulsbo locations each summer. The camp, for students in kindergarten through sixth grade, is offered in week-long sessions designed to incorporate both academic and physical activities so that students have a fun time learning.
This week, which was the last of the summer for kids in kindergarten through sixth grade, the camp focused on Sustainability: Seed to Table.
Campus has been full of new transfer and postbaccalaureate students for the past couple of days, as the annual Transitions advising, registration and orientation program is being held July 23, 24 and 27.
The program features academic advising and support, class registration, informative workshops, lunch on the Old Main Lawn (weather permitting) and an extensive information fair for students and families to become more familiar with Western's services and resources.
