Philosopher J.L. Schellenberg to Lecture on Western's Campus May 10 and 11

BELLINGHAM – Philosopher J.L. Schellenberg will present “Horrors and Hiddenness: A Path to Atheism” at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 11, in Arntzen 100 on Western’s campus, and “After Atheism: Discovering Evolutionary Religion” at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 11, in Biology 234 and at 11 a.m. in Bond Hall 109.

The lectures are free and open to the public, and are sponsored by the Provost’s Office, the Associated Students of WWU, Philosophy Club, the Departments of Philosophy, History and English, East Asian Studies Press, First Presbyterian Church of Bellingham and The Forge Bellingham.

Schellenberg is well-known in academic philosophy for his powerful defense of atheism. He received his doctorate from Oxford and now teaches at Mount Saint Vincent University in Nova Scotia. He is the author of several critically acclaimed books including “Divine Hiddenness and Human Reason,” “The Wisdom to Doubt: A Justification of Religious Skepticism” and “Evolutionary Religion: Darwin’s Unseen Legacy.”

People of all religious orientations are invited to attend and to participate in the Q&A sessions after each lecture.
