WWU's Sue Guenter-Schlesinger gives presentation at the U.S. Naval Academy

Sue Guenter-Schlesinger, vice provost for Equal Opportunity and Employment Diversity was invited to make a presentation at the “National Discussion on Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment at America’s Colleges, Universities, and Service Academies,” hosted at the United States Naval Academy Annapolis, Maryland, on April 4 -5. 

This conference was by invitation only and included approximately 300 Military Officers, University Presidents, Title IX Coordinators, Equal Opportunity Officers, and other professionals engaged in the first of its kind collaborative forum designed to develop partnerships, share best practices in prevention, and leverage research to create safe and healthy learning environments, free of sexual assault and sexual harassment.  The National Discussion was attended by the Secretaries of the Army, Navy, and Air Force and featured as one of the keynote speakers, Senator Martha McSally, the first female combat pilot in the U.S. Air Force who recently disclosed she had been raped by a superior officer.

Guenter-Schlesinger began her career directing the United States Army in Europe’s Equal Opportunity Office in Heidelberg, Germany, where she developed and conducted the first sexual harassment prevention training for military women.  She was also previously appointed by the Secretary of Defense to and served on the Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services.
