Writing More Effective Proposals - A Series of Workshops

Research and Sponsored Programs (RSP) is pleased to once again offer workshops designed to help faculty and staff write more effective proposals to external agencies.   Workshops will provide information and support to faculty and staff in a number of research related areas.  A variety of workshops are offered each quarter.  The sessions are intended to be interactive and are meant to build a community for those involved in writing proposals.

Kicking off the fall series will be an overview of a National Institutes of Health (NIH) submission. Clint Spiegel will lead this discussion on Oct. 12 from noon-1 p.m. in VU 462A.  The discussion will include how to prepare a proposal, time-line specifics, budget development, what to take away from the review process, as well as other small details to achieve funding success.  Faculty planning to submit a grant to NIH in the near future will likely benefit from this workshop.

Following Clint Spiegel’s workshop, RSP will offer three additional workshops during fall quarter.  Tracey Finch will lead the discussion in the second workshop on Oct. 19.  She will cover proposal preparation for a variety of external agencies.  On Oct. 26, Tracey will lead a discussion of the ins and outs of budget creation.  Our fall quarter workshop series will conclude on Nov. 2.  The topics of the final workshop for the quarter will be research participant compliance presented by Janai Symons, and lab safety presented by Sue Sullivan.

Graduate students and all faculty are encouraged to attend.  If you would like to be added to the email list for workshop information, please contact the RSP Program Coordinator, Coco Besson, at coco.besson@wwu.edu.
