Vernon Johnson has chapter published based on South Africa work

Vernon Johnson, a professor of political science at Western Washington University, is having his co-authored, peer-reviewed chapter "NGO-Government Interactions in South Africa: The Possibility of Cross-sector Cooperation" published in a volume titled "Contentious Politics in Africa: Identity, Conflict, and Social Change," edited by Toyin Falola and Wanjala Nasong'o and published by Durham: Carolina Academic Press.

This is the first peer-reviewed publication to come out of the service-learning class that Johnson has been teaching in South Africa in the past few years with Human Services and Rehabilitation associate professor John Korsmo. The chapter's co-author, Kirsten Lorgen Knapp, did the field interviews under Johnson's supervision in 2011. She has since worked in the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City and is currently working on a master's degree in international affairs at American University.
