Stout honored with Northwest Communication Association service award

Karen Stout, an associate professor of communication at Western Washington University, received the Northwest Communication Association's 2012 Harry "Bud" Hazel Service Award and was honored at the annual convention luncheon April 13 for her "vision, leadership and hard work over the years on the executive committee [that] have led to significant positive benefits [for] students and faculty."

Stout has served the organization in various roles, including as vice president and conference planner in 2007 and as president in 2008. Stout presented her first undergraduate academic paper at an NWCA conference more than 20 years ago and currently serves as the chair of the advisory board for the association.

Stout earned her Ph.D. in communication from the University of Utah in 2002.
