Modern & Classical Language's Shannon Dubenion-Smith awarded Goethe Institut/AATG Certificate of Merit

Western Washington University Associate Professor of Modern & Classical Languages Shannon Dubenion-Smith will be awarded the Goethe-Institut/AATG Certificate of Merit on Nov.21.

This award honors those who have demonstrated achievement in furthering the teaching of German in the U.S. by being outstanding teachers, making significant contributions to the profession, and demonstrating successful interdisciplinary cooperation. Dubenion-Smith, who was hired in 2008 for his expertise in Germanic Linguistics, has taught throughout all levels of the German curriculum, as well as courses in the Linguistics Department and for the World Language Endorsement program. Dubenion-Smith has made significant contributions to the profession through his service as Vice-President and President of the Washington chapter of the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG) from 2014 to 2018 and as a board member of the Washington Association for Language Teaching (WAFLT) from 2014 to 2020. Dubenion-Smith will be honored on Nov. 21 for being an excellent pedagogue, a versatile professor, and a dedicated leader who has made outstanding contributions to the profession.
