Alfers helps organize panel on the Holocaust at Florida conference

Western Washington University's Sandra Alfers, who is on professional leave during the 2014-2015 academic year, co-organized the panel "Haunted Pasts: Mediating Women's Memories of the Holocaust in Music, Film, and Poetry" with Brad Prager (University of Missouri) for the 2014 Lessons and Legacies Conference, which took place in November 2014 in Boca Raton, Fla.

The conference, titled "The Holocaust After 70 Years: New Perspectives on Persecution, Resistance, and Survival," was organized by the Holocaust Education Foundation of Northwestern University and hosted by Florida Atlantic University.

Alfers, a fellow of the 2007 Holocaust Education Foundation summer institute, presented a research paper on Holocaust poetry from Theresienstadt. Alfers is an associate professor of German at Western.
