Nominations being taken for 2016 President's Exceptional Effort Awards

Nominations are now being taken for President's Exceptional Effort Awards, given to individual classified and professional staff who have demonstrated excellence in performance, effective personal interaction, initiative and creativity, and overall outstanding achievement in their service and commitment to the university.

"Throughout the year I am inspired by the dedication of the employees at Western, and the lengths to which you go to collaborate and serve our students to accomplish our mission," President Bruce Shepard wrote in a recent email to campus encouraging nominations. "The creativity, innovative spirit and hard work that you bring to your roles across campus is essential to Western`s distinctive excellence, and is deeply appreciated."

To nominate, submit an online nomination demonstrating how the individual meets any of the four criteria detailed below:

Exceptional Effort Awards Criteria:

  • Excellence of Performance: Performance that consistently throughout the year exceeds the quality that is expected, and has resulted in important and significant contribution to his or her work unit and the University.
  • Personal Interaction: Performance that demonstrates exceptional ability and willingness to work positively and effectively with others.
  • Initiative and Creativity: Performance that demonstrates an innovative approach to the job and a willingness to manage changes in work priorities, procedures, and organization.
  • Outstanding Achievement: Performance that has resulted in important and significant contributions to the work unit and thus has furthered Western`s mission and strategic goals.

Award recipients will be recognized with a special gift at the Employee Recognition Ceremony on Thursday, May 5.  Award recipients will also be invited to join Cyndie and me for dinner that evening along with their spouses/partners, their nominators and the vice presidents.

Nominations must be submitted online by 5 p.m. on Friday, March 4.

Questions regarding the awards should be addressed to Barbara Sandoval. If you have ideas about other meaningful ways to honor the dedication of our faculty and staff, please submit your suggestions to the Employee Recognition Ceremony Committee.
