Can your department participate in WWU's First-Generation College Celebration event on Nov. 8?

Dear Western Community,

Western will host its annual First-Generation College Celebration event on Monday, Nov. 8, from 3:30-4:30 p.m. A save-the-date and pre-registration announcement will be shared with the campus soon. If your department would like to get involved during our First-Gen Week, please contact me -- Cameron Wuhr at wuhrc@wwu.edu or at x7592 -- by 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 29, so I can keep track of workshop proposals.

Since 2017, institutions from across the nation have celebrated first-generation students, faculty, staff, and alumni on Nov. 8 and highlight the important contributions made within their communities. From keynote speakers and brown bag lunches to launching awareness campaigns and new strategic plans, the opportunities for celebrations are endless. Additionally, many campuses now offer a First-Gen Week to celebrate the first-generation college student identity through various programming efforts.

The First-Generation College Celebration will kick off WWU's First-Gen Week with workshops to follow on Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday’s theme will focus on Community while Wednesday’s theme will focus on Well-Being.

If your department would like to get involved during our First-Gen Week, your office will be responsible for planning, coordinating, facilitating, and marketing your portion of the event. I will share these workshops during the First-Generation College Celebration event as well as post them to a webpage where we can show off everything that is being held across campus that week.

If you have any questions, please connect with me ASAP!

Kindly,

Cameron Ali Wühr
