Next WWURA travelogue: Traveling the Yangtze River

Marty Haines will talk about his trip down the Yangtze River in China at the Western Washington University Retirement Association's travelogue on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at the Squalicum Yacht Club (2633 S. Harbor Loop Drive, Bellingham).

Socializing begins at 6:30 p.m., with the presentation starting at 7:15 p.m.

Aboard a Victoria Cruises ship, Haines traveled to the Three Gorges Dam, along the way seeing villages, cities, bridges, roads, harbors and farmland that had recently been built 300 feet above the original level of the river. This project, made possible by new-found prosperity, has opened up the interior of the country to shipping and further development while producing more renewable electricity than any dam in the world. This has brought both controversy and benefits along this beautiful river.
