Officers from the Bellingham Police Department and from Western Washington University's University Police have arrested one WWU student suspected of robbing another student in the Sehome Arboretum Oct. 15, University Police Chief Randy Stegmeier announced in an e-mail message to WWU faculty, staff and students today.

A panel of business experts will discuss what it means to be a leader in green times during a forum on sustainability in business on Friday, Oct. 23.

The forum, titled "Leadership in Green Times: The Path to Sustainability," will take place from 2:30 to 3:20 p.m. in Parks Hall Room 441 on the Western Washington University campus.

The Western Libraries plans to hold a scavenger hunt and open house from noon to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, in the Wilson Library. Attendees can enter to win an iPod Touch and enjoy treats, prizes and demonstrations.

The event is sponsored by the Western Libraries and the Student Technology Center.

Visitation for Western Washington University Anthropology Professor Michael Grimes, who passed away last week, will be from 1 to 2 p.m. today, Oct. 21 at Moles Bayview Chapel, with a funeral service to follow at 2 p.m.

Graveside service will immediately follow the funeral service at Bayview Cemetery. There will be a reception at Moles Bayview Chapel.

University Dining Services at Western Washington University has announced that WWU student Esther Chung is the winner of the Win a Free Off-Campus Meal Plan contest. As the winner, she is entitled to a free commuter meal plan for the duration of the 2009-10 academic year (fall, winter and spring quarters).

The 2010 Student Technology Fee (STF) program is now accepting proposals for the 2009-2010 academic year. All Western students (through an AS organization), faculty and staff may apply.

Since its inception in 1996, the Student Technology Fee has provided students more than $8 million in technological resources and equipment to directly enhance their academic experience. The program’s quality and success depends largely on the pool of proposals received each year.

The fall quarter issue of the newsletter for the Veteran Safe Zone project on campus has been released.

The aim of the Veteran Safe Zone project is to improve the campus climate for student veterans by exhibiting outward support, respect and honor for these students regardless of one's own political views. A Veteran Safe Zone will be identified by a logo, and these logos indicate a location where veterans on campus could go to feel safe and supported.

Officials at the Western Washington University Student Health Center will be dispensing free H1N1 flu nasal spray vaccines from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (or as long as vaccine availability lasts) on Tuesday, Oct. 20, in the lobby of the Performing Arts Center on campus.

According to regulations from the Whatcom County Health Department, the vaccines are available only for healthy, low-risk students, faculty and staff ages 24 and younger. The H1N1 vaccines are not available for family members of students, faculty or staff.
