Governor Chris Gregoire has directed that flags at all Washington State agency facilities be lowered to half-staff Monday, Jan. 11, in memory of Grant County Sheriff’s Deputy John Bernard, who died on duty Jan. 3 from injuries sustained in a car accident.

Flags should remain at half-staff until close of business Monday, or first thing Tuesday morning.

A public memorial service is scheduled for noon on Monday, Jan. 11, at Big Bend Community College in Moses Lake.

No fewer than six positions (subject to availability of funds) at .083 FTE each are available for Honors seminars for the 2010-2011 academic year. Each position is for a one-quarter Honors seminar.

Interested faculty members should submit descriptions of proposed seminars to George Mariz, director of the Honors Program, at mailstop 9112 not later than 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29. E-mail submissions should be addressed to honors@wwu.edu.

Four new members, three of whom won school Athlete of the Year honors, and one who is now in charge of a major university athletics program, will be inducted into the Western Washington University Athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday, Feb. 6.

The 2010 Winter Olympics are coming to Vancouver and Whistler, B.C., in February, followed by the Paralympics in March.

Western Washington University's contracted vendor for bus transportation, Bellair Charters, has indicated that availability for bus transportation during these two months is already very tight. Departments planning to use bus transportation for field trips during February and March should make their reservations immediately.

Those who need help with bus transportation should contact Barbara Lewis at (360) 650-3068.
