Zoe's Bagels, Viking Commons to be only eating options after July 29

After the six-week summer session ends July 29, just one retail cafe -- Zoe's Bookside Bagels in Wilson Library -- will be open for the remainder of the nine-week session at Western Washington University. Zoe's will be open Monday through Friday through Aug. 31. Viking Commons will be open through Aug. 19 but then will be closed for intersession.

The VU Cafe, the Atrium in Arntzen Hall and Haggard Hideaway will be closing July 29 to allow for Aramark, Western's new food-service contractor, to update the facilities in time for fall quarter. Other campus eateries already had closed for the summer. WWU recently signed a contract with Aramark to replace longtime vendor Sodexo as the university's sole food-service provider. Aramark takes over duties from Sodexo on Sept. 1.

It is likely that some dining option will be available on campus after Aug. 19, but that decision has not yet been made. Willy Hart, director of University Residences, said it is likely that at least Zoe's would be open throughout the summer and that Viking Commons would be open for as long as conferences are taking place on campus.

Summer hours for campus eateries are available online.
