WWU's Jenn Cook wins award for excellence in club advising leadership

The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) named Western's Club Activities Manager Jenn Cook as the Region Three Advisor of the Year.

Cook won this honor by standing out as an excellent advisor to the Western chapter of NSCS, which works to provide high achieving students with extra scholarship and career connection opportunities.

“I was so honored that they nominated me in the first place,” said Cook. “It was very nice to be recognized and feel appreciated.”

The Western Washington University NSCS officer board this year was almost entirely new, according to NSCS in their article about Cook. Cook helped the club gain momentum in a tough recovery year from the pandemic, according to Nina Allen, secretary of the WWU chapter in the article.

Cook said her favorite part of working with them was “seeing the fun creativity that comes out of chapter leaders. They’ve done trivia nights, pie in the face fundraisers, things like that.”

As the club activities manager, Cook is every club’s advisor, particularly those without a faculty member to fill that role. She can be reached at cookj22@wwu.edu and her office is the Viking Union 425, affectionately nicknamed the “Club Hub.”
