WWU Western Kids Camp combines academics with summer fun

Western Washington University’s Western Kids Camp – a hands-on exploration of nature, art, science and culture during weekly theme-inspired sessions and interactive recreation – is for students entering grades K-6 and is offered June 21- August 20.

Participants will build new skills, maintain skills learned during the school year and join the fun on Western’s campus. Students will be divided into groups according to age and utilize college classrooms, labs, equipment, playing fields, and the Wade King Student Recreation Center.

Western Kids Camp is convenient for working parents. The weekly sessions take place Monday-Friday with before-care available from 7:45-8:45 a.m.; the program takes place from 9 a.m.- 4:30 p.m., and after-care is available from 4:30-5:15 p.m. Convenient parking is available close to the Student Recreation Center for easy student drop-off and pick-up and a free 20 minute permit is provided.

During three weeks of the program, July 26-August 13, a group of South Korean students entering grades 4, 5 and 6 from JLS Academy in Richmond, B.C., will attend Kids Camp as well. If your child is registered for Western Kids Camp during the three sessions and entering the same grade level, they are invited to join the South Korean students on those Wednesdays for a free field trip, a great opportunity for participants to gain a rich and unique cultural experience.

Western Kids Camp qualifies for childcare tax benefits, and is a partnership between WWU Campus Recreation and Extended Education and Summer Programs.

Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged. Details are on the Web at www.wwu.edu/youth or contact youth@wwu.edu or (360) 650-3308.
