WWU to Test Part of Western Alert Notification System on Tuesday, Aug. 26

Western Washington University plans to test its building voice messaging system, one part of the campus emergency notification system known as Western Alert, at 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 26.

Western Alert is a group of ways to reach students, faculty and staff with important safety and emergency information.

The Western Alert element that will be tested on Aug. 26 is the voice messaging over the campus fire alarm system also known as building enunciation.  Atest voice message (building enunciation) will be repeated several times in campus buildings as well as over the outside speakers at the university tennis courts, the south campus oval at the Communications Facility, and at the Old Main lawn.  Amber fire alarm strobes, where located, will flash.

There is no action required by building occupants or others on campus.

Other elements of the Western Alert system, including mass text messages and emails, and posting a message on the university homepage, will not be part of the Aug. 26 test, which is limited only to the building enunciation system.
