WWU to offer violence prevention training on campus Fall Quarter

Though they're not common, incidents of violence on a university campus always are a possibility. Knowing what behaviors are cause for concern and how to react when violence occurs could mean the difference between safety and serious injury.

Darin Rasmussen, chief of police at Western Washington University, will offer two free violence prevention trainings in the coming months for those in the WWU community.

Roughly 80 percent of all individuals committing acts of violence on campuses provided some signal ahead of time that they might become violent. Rasmussen's session will alert attendees to behaviors of concern, what to look for and how to notify Western's Safety Assessment Team.

Sessions will be held at the following dates and locations, and are limited to 35 participants each:

Tuesday, Sept. 27, from 1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. in Bond Hall 112

Thursday, Oct. 27, from 2 p.m. – 3:20 p.m. in Communication Facility 025

Friday, Nov.18, from 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. in Haggard Hall 153
