WWU To Host PNW’s First Queer Comics Convention
Recognizing the need within the community for a comics convention that supports and celebrates the transformational role of queer and minority characters and their creators in comics and science fiction, a student-led group of organizers from WWU reached a critical mass to take action on making their dream a reality. This year in April, WWU will host the Pacific Northwest’s first ever queer comics convention.
Since then, five WWU Queer Clubs, Western’s Queer Resource Center, Comic Book Club, Game Design Club, and Gaming Association have joined forces to host the Pacific Northwest’s first ever Queer Comics Convention.
The event will be held on April 29th 2017 from 10 AM - 5 PM on Western’s campus in the Academic West building. This event will include panels, a costume contest, and over thirty artists, authors, and vendors whose work has made a positive contribution to queer representation in comics and science fiction.
In order to help pay for the operational costs of this event, WWU Queer Con is running a fundraising campaign through the end of March with Western’s Viking Funder. All donations are secured through the Western Foundation, and are tax-deductible. You can support the WWU Queer Con here: https://www.vikingfunder.com/queercon17. If Queer Con surpasses their funding goal, they have a stretch goal to be able to livestream panels featuring guest artists.
