WWU to hold Veterans Day ceremony at noon Nov. 10

U.S. military veterans will speak at Western Washington University's Veterans Day ceremony from noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 10, in the Viking Union Multipurpose Room. A reception will follow.

The ceremony is sponsored by the Veterans Outreach Center and the reception is sponsored by the President’s Office. Featured speakers include Bruce Shepard, WWU president; Christopher Brown, WWU student and WWU Vet Corps Navigator; Jordan Linayao, WWU student and coordinator of Western's Student Veteran's Association; and Doris Kent, former WWU employee and gold star mother of the late Cpl. Jonathan Santos.

Vet Corps, in partnership with Western's veteran community and the WWU Associated Students Veterans' Outreach Center, is holding a food drive starting the day of the Veterans Day Ceremony and continuing through the next week. Only non-perishable food items and/or money will be accepted. Food will be donated to the Combat Veterans International Food Bank to ensure the area's homeless veterans are fed around Veterans Day. Monetary donations will be donated to Western's veteran community.

In observance of the holiday, WWU classes will not be held on Veterans Day on Thursday, Nov. 11; this is also a WWU employee holiday. The ceremony is sponsored by the Veterans Outreach Center, and the reception is sponsored by the President’s Office.

Parking enforcement will be suspended in campus parking lots from 11:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. This does not include reserved or disability parking spaces. A parking map of campus is available at https://www.ps.wwu.edu/Parking/Map.html.
