WWU students asked to participate in national student affairs assessment survey

Earlier this week, roughly 12,000 Western Washington University undergraduate students received an e-mail from Eileen Coughlin, vice president for Student Affairs and Academic Support Services, inviting them to share feedback about their experiences at Western as part of a national student affairs assessment and knowledge consortium.

Students are being asked to complete one of three online surveys; each survey takes less than 10 minutes to complete. The three surveys are:

  • Career Planning and Professional Aspirations, which assesses various aspects of students’ career aspirations, as well as the outcomes associated with utilizing Western’s Career Services Center
  • Mental Health and Counseling, which assesses students’ experiences – both before and after enrolling at Western – with a wide variety of mental health concerns
  • Student Union Programming, which assesses the importance of various Viking Union programs and services, as well as the outcomes associated with participating in Viking Union and Associated Students’ programs/events

Random sampling was structured so that each student will receive only one survey to complete. Reminder messages will be sent to students via e-mail over the next several weeks. Survey results are confidential and will be used by student affairs staff to make informed decisions about programs and services in order to more effectively serve students’ needs.

Questions about the surveys may be directed to Sherry Mallory, associate dean of students, at sherry.mallory@wwu.edu or (360) 650-2484.
