WWU’s Cat Armstrong Soule Launches the Safe Heart Project

Western Washington University Assistant Professor of Marketing Cat Armstrong Soule has launched a philanthropic effort called the Safe Heart Project.

Safe Heart is a way to demonstrate support for all marginalized groups such as people of color, Muslims, all religions, LGBTQ, women, immigrants, people of all ethnicities, and the disabled.

The icon is simple – it features a button with artwork of two conjoined pins on it that reads, “With You.” Armstrong Soule designed the image and bought the buttons herself, and enlisted the aid of her husband, Frank Stepek, and a Business Marketing student, Haley Douglas on the project.

Buying the button means that you are committing to activism on protecting the civil liberties of all Americans.

“We came up with this icon and it morphed into the project. The icon is a visible symbol that demonstrates that you have not only made a financial commitment when you buy the pin, but you are also making a commitment to promoting activism in your community,” Armstrong Soule said.
