WWU Recognized as ‘Military Friendly School’ for 2018

Western Washington University has been named a “Military Friendly School” for 2018 by militaryfriendly.com, placing Western in the top 40 percent of all higher education institutions nationwide.

Based on a survey of more than 10,000 colleges and universities, Western was one of the schools to receive recognition for doing the most to assist America’s military service members and veterans as students.

“One of the things that make Western Military friendly is that we are constantly striving to meet the needs of our military-connected students. When we are making decisions around program and policy, we are always asking ourselves whether this is the best decision in supporting our students,” said Ann Beck, assistant director of Veterans Services at Western.

“Our office continues to work to build community and connection as well as make using veteran benefits at Western as easy as possible for our students. We appreciate that we have been recognized as Military friendly and will continue to make sure our programming is meeting the needs of all WWU’s veterans' community.”

Western offers a range of services for veterans through the Registrar’s Office, Veteran’s Services, and through the Associated Students Veterans Outreach Center as well.

The Military Friendly Schools® media and website, found at http://militaryfriendly.com/military-friendly-schools/ feature the list, interactive tools and search functionality to help military students find the best school to suit their unique needs and preferences. According to Victory Media, the colleges, universities and trade schools on this year’s list have world-class programs and policies for student support on campus, academic accreditation, credit policies, flexibility and other services to those who served.
