WWU Physics Department to Host Lane Seeley April 25

Western Washington University’s Physics and Astronomy Department will host Seattle Pacific University Professor Lane Seeley for “Searching for a Coherent Approach to Systems-Based Reasoning About Energy” at 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 25 in the Communications Facility room 105.

This event is free and open to the public.

This talk will discuss common approaches to systems-based energy reasoning within physics that can lead to incoherent understanding. Seeley will explore inconsistencies between the approach to systems-based learning in physics and the approach in other disciplines.

Seeley received his doctorate from the University of Washington and has been on the faculty at Seattle Pacific University since 2001. He teaches introductory and upper division physics courses including experimental methods and global climate change.

He has served as a co-PI on NSF-funded research projects focused on energy learning and the professional preparation of pre-college teachers.
