WWU Kindness Campaign set to launch March 2

Western Washington University’s Center for Service-Learning and the WWU Service Leader Scholars are hosting the first-annual WWU Kindness Campaign from March 2 to March 6.

During the first week of March, members of Western’s community and beyond are encouraged to join in daily projects that promote kindness, stronger community, and healthy relationships.

The WWU Kindness Campaign is partnering with #WesternCares and many other organizations on campus, listed on the WWU Kindness Campaign website via the "learn more" icon.

Each day of the campaign has a separate theme:

Monday, March 2: Appreciation - Show appreciation toward WWU faculty

To encourage this project: Service Leaders, members of the WWU Wrestling Team, and members of the WWU Tennis team will be on Vendor’s Row from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. – Stop by, write a note of kindness to a professor, and they’ll deliver it for you.

Tuesday, March 3: Recognition - In person, thank a WWU grounds crewmember, custodian, mechanic, or tradesperson.

To encourage this project: Service Leaders and various offices on campus will be handing out kindness cubes (branded WWU Kindness Campaign notes that are specific to each day’s theme, project, and color) for people to give to maintenance crewmembers in their immediate areas.

Wednesday, March 4: Inspiration - Inspire your peers with uplifting words

To encourage this project: Service Leaders, The AS Bookstore, the WWU Tutoring Center, the WWU Mindfulness Club, and the To Write Love on Her Arms Club will be passing out kindness cubes with inspirational quotes on them – keep the kindness cube* for yourself, or pay-it-forward to someone that inspires you.

Thursday, March 5: Encouragement - Focus on encouraging yourself

To encourage this project: Service Leaders and the WWU Change Makers Club will be hosting an interactive art project focused on self-encouragement. You can find this project outside, beneath the Haggard Hall Sky Bridge from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Friday, March 6: Celebration

To celebrate the final day of the WWU Kindness Campaign members of the Bellingham community are invited to the WWU Kindness Campaign Talent Showcase on Friday, March 6, from 8 to 9:30 p.m. (doors will open at 7 p.m.) located on Western’s campus in Arntzen Hall 100. Students, staff, and members of the Bellingham community will be performing acts that represent what kindness means to them. This is a free event, but audience members are encouraged to bring canned food that will be donated to the Bellingham Food Bank; canned fish/meat, baby food, baby formula, peanut butter, and beans are needed.
