WWU Institute for Energy Studies to Host ‘Carbon Hackathon’ April 23
Western Washington University’s Institute for Energy Studies will host a “Carbon Hackathon” from 3-6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23 in the Wilson Library Reading Room.
The hackathon will consist of a group of people engaging in intense brainstorming sessions to develop creative solutions to challenging problems. This year’s hackathon focuses on the challenge of reducing carbon emissions.
Six student teams will compete to develop new business strategies to creatively address climate change. Teams will be mentored throughout the day by top clean-energy industry leaders from Puget Sound Energy, Amazon, Salesforce, Microsoft, ChargePoint, Lime and the City of Seattle.
The hackathon curates ideas in a group environment and challenges students to solve problems quickly. Students, faculty and community members are invited to cheer on the teams on as they present their carbon hacks and watch the judging panel select a winning team.
The event will conclude with a keynote address from Western Washington University Journalism alumna Amy Harder. Harder is an energy and climate reporter for Axios; her coverage includes congressional legislation, regulations, lobbying and international policy actions affecting the United States. Before working at Axios, Harder covered the same issues for the Wall Street Journal.
