WWU hosts Emi Tamba from Nagoya University of Foreign Studies

Western Washington University welcomed Emi Tamba from Nagoya University of Foreign Studies (NUFS) in Nagoya, Japan to campus on Monday, Jan. 23. During the visit, she met with faculty, staff and students from Western’s Intensive English Program, International Student & Scholar Services, and Extended Education.

Tamba serves as the International Relations Director for the Office of International Studies and Exchange at NUFS. Her visit was part of an ongoing partnership between NUFS and Western Washington University that provides student exchange opportunities.

“Emi Tamba’s visit further solidifies the relationship between Western and NUFS and holds great promise for continued growth in that relationship,” said Rick O’Connor, interim senior director of Language and Culture Programs at Western.

The two universities began exchanging students in the 2000-2001 academic year and have since had nearly 50 Western students travel to NUFS and welcomed 65 NUFS students to Western’s campus. In 2015, the partnership expanded to welcome the first NUFS students to Western’s Intensive English Program.

While on campus, Tamba observed an Intensive English Program course, toured Western’s facilities, and had several meetings with Western staff about goals to increase international students.
