WWU art student has works on display in president/provost offices

Photos by art student Michelle Alexis Newman are on display this quarter in the President/Provost offices, Old Main Room 450, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The photos will remain on view until March 11.

This collection of photographs, titled "The North Wind Blew South," was taken throughout the southern region of California. Newman would spend the day driving, exploring and taking photos; adventuring through the cowboys and kitsch, sun and surf, dust and dirt, the sleek and modern, and the left behind and forgotten. To the artist, “these abstract landscapes speak to that universal appeal that drew Hollywood so long ago. This collection could have been taken anywhere, but it is this quality that makes it uniquely California.”

Michelle Alexis Newman was born in Edmonds. She has a degree in film and video communications and is currently finishing her bachelor's degree in photography through Western's Art Department. To see more of her work, visit her Web site at http://michellealexisnewman.com.
