Writing More Effective Proposals - A Series of Workshops from RSP

Writing More Effective Proposals - A Series of Workshops

Research and Sponsored Programs (RSP) is pleased to once again offer workshops designed to help faculty and staff write more effective proposals to external agencies.   Workshops will provide information and support to faculty and staff in a number of research related areas.  A variety of workshops are offered each quarter.  The sessions are intended to be interactive and are meant to build a community for those involved in writing proposals. Our workshops this quarter will use focus on preparing and submitting proposals to the National Science Foundation (NSF).

Our first workshop will take place on Friday, Jan. 20 from Noon-1 p.m. in Miller Hall, room 258, and David Patrick will lead the discussion. He will discuss previous proposals that he submitted to the NSF and the feedback that he received as well as lessons that he has learned from working with NSF throughout his career.

Following David Patrick’s workshop, RSP will offer three additional workshops this quarter.  On Jan. 27, Greg O’Neil and Kevin Covey will host a workshop on preparing and submitting successful NSF Career grants. On Feb. 3, Edward Geary, director of SMATE, will cover topics related to the organization of NSF and how proposals are evaluated.  Our winter quarter workshop series will conclude on Feb.10, with a presentation by Ron Marks, professional development specialist. The topic of the final workshop for the quarter is time management, and in particular, finding ways to carve out the necessary time to submit an effective proposal.

All of our workshops this quarter will take place in Miller Hall, room 258 from Noon-1 p.m.  Graduate students and all faculty are encouraged to attend.  If you would like to be added to the email list for workshop information, please contact the RSP Program Coordinator, Coco Besson, at coco.besson@wwu.edu.
