Workshop Nov. 19 to teach fabric upcycling

A hands-on clothing and textiles workshop Nov. 19 at Western Washington University will help keep trash out of landfills and give attendees a useful product. In this workshop, scheduled for 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, in Viking Union Room 464, attendees will upcycle a plastic malt bag from a local microbrewery into a reusable grocery tote.

Attendees also will be shown ways to make nearly invisible fixes or creative patching art. A variety of fabric, buttons and yarn will be provided as well as basic tools like needles, thread and scissors. Attendees are encouraged to bring your items that need minor repair or just stop in to help a friend and be prepared for future rips and snags.
