Women of Color Empowerment Dinner is May 16

The 2014 Women of Color Empowerment Dinner seeks to unify and create dialogue among students, staff, faculty and community members willing to learn from the collective pressures of race and ethnic relations that women of color face with each experience.

The annual event, presented by Student Outreach Services, will take place Friday, May 16, on campus.

The dinner provides an opportunity for the WWU community to share their voices in a supportive atmosphere. Furthermore, students are encouraged and empowered to persist in their higher education pursuits at Western. Under the theme "Honoring Generations: Enacting the Strength of Our Spirit," the event focuses on the struggles, triumphs and experiences of women of color and their allies and celebrates the professional accomplishments and personal successes of women of color throughout the community.

Included in the program are student performances, keynote speeches, the presentations of the Women of Color Empowerment Award and Women of Color Empowerment Scholarship, and fundraising efforts.

Tickets are $15 for students and $25 for faculty, staff and community members. They may be purchased at the WWU Box Office online or at the Performing Arts Center up through the evening of the event. Networking and a silent auction will take place from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m., and the main event is slated for 6 to 8 p.m. in the Viking Union Multipurpose Room.
