Wizards @ Western series continues with ‘Water World’ Nov. 16

Western Washington University’s College of Sciences and Technology will host its next Wizards @ Western lecture, “Water World,” at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, at Science Lecture Hall Room 110 on campus.

The event is free and open to the public, and is geared toward children in grades four to eight.

Western Professor of Chemistry Steven Emory will illustrate the chemical reactions in water by igniting hydrogen bubbles, blowing vortex rings, creating liquid nitrogen ice cream and exploring the acid-base properties of water.

Emory is a member of Western’s Advanced Materials Science and Engineering Center and is co-adviser to Western’s award-winning American Chemical Society student chapter. He also directs an active student research group that focuses on the use of metal and semiconductor nanomaterials in developing a laser-based optical method of detection and identification.
