Western's Wind Symphony to present free concert, 'Music from the British Isles,' Nov. 15

Western Washington University’s Wind Symphony will present its fall concert, “Music from the British Isles,” at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15 in the Performing Arts Center Concert Hall.

The performance is free and open to the public.

Audience members will be transported across the pond for a sampling of classic and contemporary wind band selections that capture the history and flavor of British, Irish, Celtic, and Scottish folk music.

“The evening has something for everybody and will be especially enjoyable for fans of folk music,” said Christopher Bianco, Western Washington University associate professor of Music and the evening’s conductor. “Our guest artists are well known Irish pub musicians from Seattle who bring an energy and excitement to the evening that is different than a typical band concert.”

The evening program will feature works by Percy Grainger, Gustav Holst, Arnold Jacob, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Dan Welcher. The final selection of the evening will feature Seattle musicians Randal Bays on fiddle, Tom Creegan on uilleann pipes, and Colm MacCárthaigh on guitar.
