Western's Judo Club participates in the 'Battle by the Lake' in Coeur d'Alene

The Western Judo Club had 4 members travel to Coeur d'Alene this past weekend for the Battle by the Lake Judo tournament. Kazuki Suzuki, Ian Llaneza, Mikala Conway, and Camden Bach traveled together along with coach Mark Glaser. Each player fought well in their respective divisions.

Kazuki had a very nice first win with a quick seio-nage Ippon throw in the Men's Brown/Black Belt Middle Light weight division. The last 2 matches where he did not come up on top also unfortunately caused a shoulder injury. We wish him luck with his recovery!

Ian Llaneza fought hard in the Senior Men's Novice Light weight division and finished 2-2 awarding him a bronze medal. He was then asked to participate in an unscheduled round robin exhibition division of his peers in which he went 1-1 in order to grab the silver.

In Mikala Conway's first ever judo competition he went straight to the top for gold winning all four of his matches with throws for Ippon in the Senior Men's Novice Light Middle weight division.

Camden Bach also entered his first ever judo competition after only a couple of days of practicing judo. He went 2-2 in the Senior Mens Novice Middle weight division which awarded him the bronze medal!

Congratulations to all of our WWU judo competitors!
