Western's Hahn to discuss wild-food foraging Nov. 17

Jennifer Hahn, an adjunct professor in Western Washington University's Fairhaven College of Interdisciplinary Studies, will speak on wild-food foraging -- and offer samples of her delicious wild food, including kelp pickles and nettle pesto -- at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, at the Whatcom Museum of History and Art in Bellingham.

A $3 donation is suggested; museum members get in free.

With more than 25 years of wilderness travel under her boots and kayak hull -- including through-hiking the Pacific Crest Trail from northern California to Canada and kayaking solo from Ketchikan, Alaska, to Washington -- Hahn relies on sustainable wild harvesting to keep her pack and kayak light. She will share stories from her recent book "Pacific Feast: A Cook's Guide to West Coast Foraging," which made the best-seller list for Northwest Independent Bookstores.
