Western Wins All-IN Challenge; Has Highest Undergrad Voting Rate in the Nation for Large Institutions

Western Washington University is the winner of an “ALL IN Challenge Best in Class” award for having the highest undergraduate voting rate at a large, public, four-year institution thanks to the efforts of the AS Representation and Engagement Programs office.

The All IN Campus Democracy Challenge is a national awards program that honors colleges and universities for their commitment and outstanding contributions to improving student voting rates. The challenge encourages higher education institutions to help students form the habits of active and informed citizenship, make democratic participation a core value on their campus and cultivate generations of engaged citizens who are essential to a healthy democracy.

Awards will be presented at the ALL IN Challenge award ceremony on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at the Knight Conference Center at the Newseum in Washington, D.C. Awards will be presented to college and university campuses, faculty, administrators, students, presidents and partners for their achievements in student voting.

“I am proud of all the work that our office put into voter registration and GOTV efforts in the last couple of years. The higher our turnout rate for elections is, the more representative our democracy is. Our office puts in so much work to engage students, so winning the ALL IN Challenge is a reminder that we are making a difference on this campus,” AS Representation and Engagement Programs organizing and outreach coordinator, Nicole Ballard said.
