Western Unveils Expanded ‘We Value’ Internal Campaign

In an effort to promote the core values articulated in the University’s 2025 strategic plan across the campus community, Western Washington University has launched an expanded “We Value” banner campaign that includes on-campus banners and physical branding in high-traffic locations, including banners on the Old Main lawn, on High Street in front of the Viking Union, and interior branding in Western Libraries and Old Main.  This joins existing perimeter banners installed last year on the south end of campus.

“It is important for every member of the campus community to see – and more importantly practice – the values that we hold ourselves accountable to, as an institution,” said Donna Gibbs, vice president of University Relations and Marketing at WWU.

The internal campaign focuses on the core and aspirational values central to Western’s mission, from Inclusive Success, Curiosity, Respect and Creativity to Inquiry, Equity and Social Justice.

Gibbs said focusing not only on core values – the deeply ingrained principles that guide all of the university’s actions – but also on aspirational values that the university is pushing toward as part of its envisioned future, is a crucial way to help define the culture of the University and communicate our overarching mission to current and prospective students, families, visitors, and the surrounding community.

“We hope this is just a first step,” said Gibbs. “We have interior banners up in two buildings on campus, but hope that other building occupants will be inspired to request similar treatments in their buildings as well.”
