Western to offer web-design course in September

Western Washington University Extended Education will offer “Web Design and Development: From Web Scripting to WordPress” beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, in Communications Facility Room 126.

Participants will meet weekly for two hours to explore database-driven web capabilities and learn how to develop and maintain websites. Information sessions about the class will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, and Thursday, Sept. 12, in Western’s Communications Facility Room 314.

Students will become introduced to web design with an emphasis on essential web-scripting languages and WordPress. The first half of the quarter will focus on writing code. Students will write their own HTML, CSS and PHP while creating a simple multi-page website. The second half of the quarter will focus on the use of WordPress to expand the toolkit for advanced web publishing.

This course is ideal for people who envision themselves starting their own businesses; marketing products online; designing, developing or maintaining one or more websites; or seeking employment and career skills in a web-design field. It is open to all community members.

Weekly class sessions will consist of lectures, discussion, guided demonstrations, and practice time. This course also provides the option for participants to earn two optional Western credits.
