Western to hold MLK celebration Jan. 20

Western Washington University will hold its first annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, in the Wilson Library Reading Room.

The event will be followed by a screening of the award-winning documentary "Brother Outsider: the Life of Bayard Rustin."

Both events are free and open to the public.

Featured speakers:

  • Annika Wolters, Associated Students president
  • Jordan Butler, Black Student Union president
  • Ted Pratt, dean of students
  • Rebecca Marrall, diversity and disability services librarian

Additionally, Darryl Brice, a sociology instructor at Highline Community College, will present "Bread & Circuses: Exploring the Legacy of the ‘Real’ Dr. Martin Luther King."

Light refreshments will be served. The events are sponsored by the Division of Enrollment and Student Services and The President's Office.
